Lemon (Nimboo, Limboo, Lime) Plant

Lemon plant forms a 3–6 m (10–20 ft) tall, evergreen spreading shrub or small tree. Citrus is the third largest fruit industry in India, in terms of area under cultivation, after bananas and mangoes.

Citrus requires minimal pruning by cutting back overcrowded branches, cutting back the tallest branch to encourage tree growth. All summer long, pinching off the most vigorous growth tips ensures more abundant canopy growth. Lemon is one of the healthiest fruits with wide range of health benefits. They are rich in essential vitamins and minerals and have wide use in the culinary world. Lemons are nutritionally very low in calories but packed with vitamins, essential oils and antioxidants.

• Choose the sunniest spot in your garden and dig a 12-inch deep hole.
• Plant the tree deep and then pack the soil.
• The soil should be well drained, fertile and rich in organic content for growing Nimboo plant.
• The plant thrives in aerated, loamy, moist well-drained, fertile, and rich soil.
• Do not overwater the plant.
• Water should be applied preferably in the morning or evening.
• Make sure the roots of the plant are damp but not too wet.
• Organic fertilizer once a month during the main growing season (December-February).
• Water the soil immediately after using the fertilizer.
• Remove dead, infected or damaged plant parts and discard them away from the plants.
• Water the plants frequently in summer, reducing the frequency in winter and rainy season.
• In case of insect or pest attack, use Eucalyptus oil, Neem oil, or Citrus oil spray for the primary treatment.
